The Need for Nutritious Food

January 30, 2009

Phoenix Rescue Mission will be hosting a Free Produce Give-A-Way this Saturday for neighborhood low income families. This distribution is much needed according to Nicole Peña of the Mission because,

“Just as we’ve seen an increased demand for food in our Emergency Food Box Program, we’ve also seen an increased demand for fresh groceries. The families who wait in line are very appreciative of the quality and selection of the produce we provide at these events.”

Not only are these events a way for families to have access to good-tasting, nutritional foods like fresh produce, meat, cheese, bread and milk which are sometimes sacrificed for cheaper, processed items at the grocery store, but they also serve as an opportunity for volunteers to connect with those less fortunate in their community.

We’re blessed by Phoenix Coyotes Charities and St. Mary’s Food Bank’s partnership in Saturday’s event and thank the Phoenix Suns Charities for partnering with the Mission on past produce events.
