Children’s Easter Event

April 7, 2009

Saturday was a gorgeous day for the Mission’s annual Children’s Easter Event at Isaac Middle School. The sun was shining down on families as their kids colored eggs and made crafts with people helping out from local churches and volunteer groups. Members of Generation Church played guitar and sang to the crowd as they ate their hot dogs and snow cones.

Inside the school, I sat with some of my new friends as we watched “Canvas” performed by Desert Springs Foursquare Church. The performance told the story of God’s love and ultimate sacrifice for His people through canvas, paint, music and dance. A children’s ministry group from Hope Chapel performed songs for an earlier crowd. After the performances the families made their way to our Clothing Closet, followed by the Easter basket table (we had over 2,000 baskets ready and waiting thanks to our amazing donors) and finally food boxes and fresh produce for the entire family.

Every step of the way, I saw smiles and gratitude for being part of this event, not only from the families, but from all the volunteers that made this day possible. It was a wonderful experience for everybody involved.

The Mission has so many people to thank for blessing these families in our community by bringing the joy of Easter to their hearts and nourishing their bodies and souls. God bless you all.
